Road Legal or Show Plates – Know the Difference. At PlatedUp, we take compliance seriously.
If you order through our Road Legal Plates section, your number plates will always be manufactured to meet current UK regulations. Even if your preview design includes spacing or layout variations, we will automatically adjust it to ensure it is fully compliant for legal road use. This guarantees peace of mind and protects you from potential fines or MOT issues.
If you choose the Show Plates section, your order will be produced exactly as designed. Show plates are strictly for display, exhibitions, or off-road use. They do not include the legally required supplier details, British Standard markings, or compliant spacing needed for UK road use.
By law, we need to see proof of identity (e.g., Driving Licence, Passport) and proof of entitlement to the registration number (e.g., V5C Logbook, V750 Certificate of Entitlement). We will request these after your order is placed.
No. Altering the spacing to form words or change the appearance of the registration is illegal and can result in a fine of up to £1,000 and an MOT failure. We only print plates with legal spacing.
