5mm Gel vs 7mm Gel Plates: How Much Depth Do You Want?

Our gel plates are some of the most eye-catching we make. Both styles use thick acrylic characters topped with a glossy gel finish, but there's a real difference between 5mm and 7mm.

5mm gel

• Characters stand out 5mm from the plate.
• A bold, glossy look that still feels refined.
• Great on hatchbacks, saloons and everyday cars.

7mm gel

• Our deepest characters at 7mm.
• Maximum depth, shadow and shine, so they're very hard to miss.
• Perfect for performance cars, 4x4s and anything that deserves to stand out.

Are deep gel plates legal?

Yes. Depth isn't the issue; the characters must be one solid shade of black, in the legal font and spacing, with the supplier's markings and the BS AU 145e mark. All our gel plates are made that way. Learn more about BS AU 145e.

Fitting deep plates
